BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – Baker University sophomore sprinter Gloria Mares was named Heart Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, announced on Monday.
At the Tabor Relays this past weekend several 'Cats shined including Mares who qualified for the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in two events, as she hit the 'B' standard in the 100m dash in a time of 12.20 and hit the 'A' standard in the women's 200m race in a time of 24.75.
She took first place in the 200m race and third place in the 100m race. The Andover, Kansas native also competed in the 90th Annual Kansas Relays with her 4x100 teammates and finished 9th in a time of 48.85.
Mares and the rest of her teammates will host the 2017 Baker Zach Kindler Open this Saturday, Apr. 29 at Liston Stadium.
