BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – After another successful season, the Baker University Athletic department finished No. 36 in the final NAIA standings of the 2016-17 Learfield Directors' Cup.
Baker was the third team from the Heart of America Athletic Conference to finish in the Top 40, Grand View led all teams from the Heart with its 16th-place finish, while MNU was second, finishing in 27th place.
The Wildcats registered 198 points during the fall season, with 90 points by its national runner-up football team and 83 points for the women's soccer programs third place finish. The men's soccer program also qualified for its fourth-straight trip to the national tournament in 2016.
They also garnered 185.50 points in the winter with solid performances nationally by the women's basketball team and wrestling program.
The women's basketball team has also now made four-straight trips to the national tournament and the wrestling team earned two more NAIA All-Americans.
While the women's track and field team collected 21.50 points in the spring for the 'Cats with an All-American performance by race walker Brenda McCollum.
Collectively Baker had, 61 Heart All-Conference award winners, 53 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 29 Heart Players of the Week, 18 NAIA All-Americans, 4 Heart Players of the Year and 1 NAIA National Player of the Year.
