BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University women's basketball team announced its 2017-18 schedule on Tuesday, which includes 16 home dates and two home tournaments on Nov. 3-4 and Nov. 17-18.
"Once again our schedule will feature high quality competition across the board both inside and outside of conference play," said head coach Ben Lister. "We have a schedule built to prepare us for the opportunity to play in the postseason at a high level and we hope to put ourselves in that position again this year."
The Wildcats' first three games of the season will be inside the Collins Center, as they host the 2017 Heart/KCAC Classic on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4.
Baker will take on University of St. Mary on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Ottawa on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
Benedictine is the fourth team in this event, as they will face Ottawa on Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. and will take on USM on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m.
"With more flexibility in the non-conference, we were able to take advantage of that by hosting two classics," said Lister. "The first features local teams including University of St. Mary, Ottawa, and Benedictine. It is great for all four schools to have good early fan support."
BU returns home on Nov. 14 to face nationally ranked Columbia College at 7 p.m. and then hosts the Baker Classic on Nov. 17 and Nov. 18.
The 'Cats will face Manhattan Christian College on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and then nationally ranked Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Benedictine again will be the fourth team in the tournament and will face OLLU on Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m., then takes on Manhattan Christian College on Nov. 18 at 1 p.m.
"We will face four teams that made national tournaments in the non-conference and have perennial national powers such as Columbia in a single game and Our Lady of the Lake out of San Antonio in our second classic playing at our place," said Lister. "That should draw fans to see us before conference play as well. Those type of games are great measuring sticks early in the year and we are looking forward to them."
Heart of America Athletic Conference play begins on Nov. 29, as Baker hosts Avila at 5:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center.
The annual Heart rivalry game against MNU is set for January 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Baldwin City and Senior Day will be celebrated on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. against Benedictine.
"Our conference qualified five teams for the NAIA National Tournament last season, one of two conferences to do so, there is no doubt that it will once again be a tremendous challenge to win," said Lister.
