BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The Baker University volleyball team celebrated its annual 'Dig Pink' celebration on Tuesday evening, as they wore pink jerseys to raise awareness for Breast Cancer research, as they hosted No. 22 Missouri Valley and the Vikings prevailed in five sets (25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 17-25, 15-9).
The first place Vikings improve to 11-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play and 24-4 overall, while the Wildcats fall to 4-9 in conference play and 11-15 overall. Mo Valley moves to 2-0 this season against the 'Cats.
Missouri Valley posted a .242 hitting percentage in the victory and held Baker to .167. The Wildcat blocking attack was again strong, as they collected 12 total team blocks with Olivia Brees finishing with nine block assists and a solo block.
Ashley Sparks led all players on the floor with 17 kills and hit .234, she also had eight digs.
Like Baker, Missouri Valley had a two-setter approach with Kristin Sazama leading the way with 27 assists and Sarah Mueller had 20. Megan Milroy had 14 assists for BU.
Missouri Valley had an impressive 13 service aces with five coming from Eldridge. Gabby Miller almost notched double digit kills, as she had nine.
Baker will next hit the road to face rival MNU on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
