Dingus Named Baker’s First Director of Athletic Bands
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Following a thorough national search, Baker Athletic Director Susan Decker announced the hiring of Logan Dingus as the university's first-ever Director of Athletic Bands for the newly-established Baker athletic band program.
"We are thrilled to welcome Logan to Baker University and have him leading our newest program," said Decker. "His experience and positive energy will help cultivate a program that allows more opportunities for our current and prospective students while continuing to grow the partnership between the athletic and band departments. We also look forward to growing the athletic band as they continue to enhance our home events and provide an excellent game-day experience for our student-athletes."
Dingus comes to Baker after spending the past few years as a music teacher at Northern Hills Elementary School in Topeka, Kan. With his wife originally being from the state, Dingus made the move to Kansas in 2020, following a year as the primary music teacher at Meadowview Elementary School in Meadowview, Va.
"When I first visited Baker, I was blown away by how passionate so many of the faculty members and alumni were - some were even members of the original marching band years ago," said Dingus. "The traditions and history of the University are something to be proud of, and this ensemble will only serve to strengthen those traditions and the gameday experience here at Baker."
During his time in Virginia, Dingus spent a total six years on the band staff at John S. Battle/Abingdon High School where he was able to serve as a judge in local marching competitions. He has written marching drills at both the high school and collegiate level.
As a graduate of Liberty University, Dingus was on the staff for the Flames' athletic bands from 2017-2018 where he served in both teaching and administrative roles.
"In my experience, there is no excitement quite like playing the fight song after a game winner and singing the alma mater with the student-athletes that you support each game," added Dingus. "I'm excited for our Baker Wildcat Band members to feel that excitement as well."
Baker's newest program will work towards developing an athletic band – eventually consisting of both pep and marching bands – that sustains high-quality fundamentals and can curate a high standard of music performance.
