Cavaness Field
Softball
Cavaness Field is home to the Baker softball team and is located in the northeast part of the Charlie Richard Outdoor Complex. Originally located where Hartley Field (soccer) is, Cavaness Field moved locations and underwent a big renovation as part of the "Baker Builds Champions" capital project in 2021. The first set of home games on the brand new all-turf field were played in February of 2022.
A.B. Cavaness, one of Kansas' outstanding poets and a member of Baker's first graduating class in 1866, presented the ground where Liston Stadium and Hartley Field now sit in Baldwin City between First and Second streets and High and Grove streets.
In May of 2023, Cavaness Field played host to both the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Tournament and the NAIA Softball Opening Round. The Wildcats secured their first-ever trip to the NAIA World Series on their home field with a 5-3 victory over College of Idaho that year.
