Wildcats Swept by No. 23 Central Methodist in First Conference Road Trip

FAYETTE, Mo. - After sweeping its conference-opening series the previous weekend, Baker baseball fell in all four games of its tough road series at No. 23 Central Methodist on Saturday and Sunday.

The Wildcats fell in game one, 27-3, before dropping back-to-back one-run games, including an eight-inning walkoff in game two, followed by a 5-3 setback in the weekend finale

Game 1 - CMU 27, BU 3
The Eagles started off the series with a 15-run first inning and scored 12 more in the next five innings to blow out the Wildcats in game one.

The Wildcats scored a couple of runs in the top of the fifth on a sac fly from Javier Aguirre and then an RBI double from Camden Karlin. Eli Young smacked a solo home run in the sixth to give him three to the start of Heart play, including homers in back-to-back games dating back to last week's series finale against Peru State.

Game 2 - CMU 9, BU 8 (8 inn.)
The Wildcats came up short in their first extra-inning outing of the year, falling in a heartbreaker in game two after battling their way back.

Down to the last out, Brennan Johnson clubbed a three-run shot over the right-field fence in the top of the seventh to push Baker in front, 8-6. The Eagles came back with their own big moment as a two-run homer in the bottom half pushed the game to extras before CMU went on to walk it off in the eighth.

Karlin led the game off with his fourth home run of the spring to give BU a quick 1-0 lead. Back-to-back bases-loaded free passes made it a 4-3 deficit for the Wildcats before CMU stretched it out to a 6-3 ballgame.

Game 3 - CMU 5, BU 4
On Sunday, a pinch-hit home run from Cade Adams in the seventh almost sparked a late rally for BU, but the Eagles were able to hold on for their second straight one-run victory.

Also, for the second straight game, a leadoff homer from the Wildcats gave them the early advantage after Kolden Howerton opened the second inning with his first home run of the spring.

A sac fly from Karlin tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth before a three-run homer from CMU in the sixth pushed the hosts back in front and proved to be the difference maker.

Game 4 - CMU 5, BU 3
The Wildcats were burned by the long ball again in the series finale as a pair of CMU home runs in the sixth erased a 3-1 lead for BU.

Young laced a bases-clearing double in the top of the third to register the only extra-base hit for the Wildcats in the game.

Trent Davidson pitched four scoreless innings, while Brayden Youkon (0.2 IP) and Gage Callaghan (1.0 IP) each didn't allow a hit in their scoreless relief outings.

Up next, Baker is scheduled to open up a four-game set on the road at Grand View with a doubleheader starting on Saturday, March 15 at 12 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
