Karn Named Heart Defensive Player of the Week

BALDWIN CITY - Baker linebacker Canon Karn was tabbed Heart Football Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Musco, following his record-setting performance in the Wildcats' 61-7 victory over Culver-Stockton on Saturday.

Karn, a senior from Holton, Kan., became Baker's career tackles leader and had one of three interceptions returned for a touchdown by the BU defense, tying the program record for the most pick-sixes in a game. He also had a forced fumble and finished with six tackles to bring his career total to 285 tackles, surpassing former Wildcat Colton Miller (2007-2010) in the record book.

The reigning Heart South Defensive Player of the Year has helped lead a Baker defense that has allowed just one touchdown at home this year with C-SC scoring in garbage time of Saturday's blowout at Liston Stadium. Karn has recorded 18 total tackles and has a sack, a forced fumble and a pick-six in his 2024 campaign.

For the third straight week, a BU player has garnered one of the conference's player of the week awards with teammates Truman Juelsgaard (Week 2) and PJ McCallop Jr. (Week 1) receiving the honor as well this season.

Karn and the 17th-ranked Wildcats will head out for a top-20 showdown at No. 14 Benedictine this weekend with the rivalry matchup set for Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
