Wildcats Host Top-Ranked Grand View for Saturday Showdown
BALDWIN CITY – After holding its home opener last weekend, (RV) Baker football will turn around and host No. 1 Grand View for a Saturday morning matchup tomorrow at Liston Stadium and Don Parker Field.
Last week, Baker dropped its home opener to an undefeated William Penn squad, 24-13, to give the Wildcats back-to-back losses to start the year for the first time since 2010. Gabe Martin scored his second touchdown of the year and kicker Seth Simpson nailed a couple of field goals, including a 37-yarder that tied the game at 10-10 in the third quarter.
After leading the NAIA in interceptions and defensive touchdowns the past two years, the BU defense has yet to force a turnover or sack through the first two games of 2025. Receiver Adrion Seals has totaled nearly 200 yards with 13 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown this season.
As the defending national champions, Grand View won both of its first two matchups of the season with a 27-24 victory over No. 3 Benedictine in the season opener, followed by a 49-17 win against Missouri Baptist last week.
Quarterback Jackson Waring has thrown for 359 yards and four touchdowns, while running back Dalten Van Pelt has added three rushing touchdowns and 118 yards in two games. The Vikings boast a pair of NAIA All-Americans on the defensive side of the ball with linebacker John Argo and defensive lineman Jackson Filer both being 2024 honorees.
Saturday's matchup will be the ninth meeting between the two teams, who have both claimed conference titles in back-to-back seasons with Grand View in the midst of six straight championships. The Vikings lead the all-time series, 5-3 and have won five straight with BU's last victory coming in 2017.
Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 11 a.m. from Liston Stadium. A free live stream of the game can be found on the Urban Edge Network. Live stats will be available here.
