Wildcats Fall on the Road at Midland, 12-0

FREMONT, Neb. - Playing for the fourth straight time away from Baldwin City, the Baker women's flag football team suffered a 12-0 setback on the road at Midland on Saturday in just the second loss of the season for the Wildcats.

The Warriors scored early in the second quarter to take a 6-0 halftime lead and tacked on an insurance score in the third quarter, while posting the first shutout against the Wildcats this spring.

With Midland controlling things through the air, Baker tried to pave its way via the ground game, racking up 146 yards featuring a four-headed attack of Tara Llorente, Sanija Waller, Ava Alvarez and Kaley Phillips. Llorente tallied a team-best 67 rushing yards and added 87 passing yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Warriors broke through just a few minutes into the second, scoring on a short pass in the red zone to jump in front 6-0.

On the first set of possessions of the second half, the Wildcats forced a punt on Midland's first series and then had a solid drive going on their end before sputtering out in Warriors territory. Needing nine yards for a first down, Llorente had a fourth-down pass deflected at the line to give the ball back to MU.

Midland took five plays to go down the field and run up its second touchdown, scoring on a big pass play near midfield that initially looked to be tipped by the BU defender to make it a 12-0 ballgame with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Baker had three more opportunities to cut into the deficit, but the Warriors turned them away on back-to-back fourth-down stops, including one near MU's own goal line, before sealing the victory on BU's third interception of the game.

Up next, Baker will remain on the road to close out its 2026 regular season, facing off against Graceland on Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
