Harvey Sets New Career-High as Wildcats Defeat Park on Wednesday Night, 90-74
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After earning Heart of America Player of the Week honors on Monday, Quentin Harvey did not slow down on Wednesday evening, helping Baker to a 90-74 win over Park University, scoring 32 points in the process.
Harvey's career-high 32 points came on 13-of-19 shooting, going 3-for-7 from three and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Jalen Patterson was Baker's next highest scorer with 16 points, knocking down a few key three-pointers late in the game to help seal the deal. Braden Wiggs also reached double figures in the game, adding 10 points, shooting 100 percent from the field.
Baker's Noah Rigatuso scored a bucket just under five minutes into the game to give the Wildcats a 14-9 lead, but Park quickly fought their way back into the game and eventually took a 23-22 lead on a three-pointer with 10:22 left in the first half.
With Baker trailing by one, Harvey drilled a huge three and gave Baker the lead right back, 27-25. With just over one minute until halftime, Baker called a timeout and drew up a great play to get Wiggs a layup underneath, giving Baker a slim 37-36 lead at the break.
It took almost three minutes in the second half for Park to get a field goal, and Baker had stretched their lead to 47-41. After a timeout from the Pirates, back-to-back three pointers from Patterson gave Baker a double-digit lead, 53-41 forcing another timeout from Park.
With Park stuck at 41 points for over three minutes, the Wildcats pulled away and pushed their lead to 64-43 on a massive dunk from Quentin Harvey with 13:17 left in the game. Late in the game, Baker's Brock Burling was able to connect on back-to-back possession as Baker held an 86-64 lead. The Wildcats never gave Park a chance to get back into the game and eventually won, 90-74.
Baker is now 17-5 on the season and 12-4 in Heart of America play. With six games left in conference play, the Wildcats have already tied for the most wins in conference play since the 2011-2012 season. They will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to take on Grand View at 4 p.m.
