Mahgoub Named First-Ever Heart Defensive Player of the Week

BALDWIN CITY - Ahmed Mahgoub of the Baker men's basketball team was selected as the inaugural Heart Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon, following his performance in the Wildcats' three-game stretch this past week.

This is the first season in the history of NAIA and Heart basketball that there will be a student-athlete awarded with the Heart Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week award.

Mahgoub had five rebounds, three steals and a block, while helping No. 19 Baker hold (RV) Keiser to shoot under 35 percent (33.3%) in BU's 63-58 victory over the Seahawks on Friday. He added another three steals against No. 22 Florida Memorial on Saturday.

The senior from Kansas City, Mo. scored in double figures in two of the three games, including 19 points in the Wildcats' 97-64 win against Saint Mary at home Monday. In his second season at BU, he already has a 20-point outing with 20 points in the season opener at Ottawa.

Mahgoub and the Wildcats open up the Heart of America season at home with a matchup against Missouri Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center.
