Whittick Earns Heart Defensive Player of the Week Honors

BALDWIN CITY - Senior point guard Nick Whittick was named Heart of America Conference Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon Technologies, following his performance in helping the Wildcats clinch their first conference championship in 36 years.

Whittick, a senior from West Palm Beach, Fla., tallied five steals in a Heart Conference Network Game of the Week victory at Graceland on Saturday, securing the Heart regular-season title for BU. He also played a key role for the BU defense that held MidAmerica Nazarene to 55 points in the Wildcats' home win over the Pioneers on Thursday. MNU came into that game with an eight-game winning streak and had just scored 116 points in its previous game before being held to less than half of that against BU.

In his second season at Baker after transferring from Allen County CC, Whittick has started all but one game this year and is averaging over five assists per game and over one steal per game while facilitating a BU offense that leads the Heart in scoring with 81.7 points per game.

With two games left in the regular season, Whittick and the Wildcats host back-to-back home games, beginning with a matchup against Benedictine on Wednesday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center.
