Wildcats Drop Midweek Road Matchup to Eagles
FAYETTE, Mo. - Baker men's basketball came out on the wrong end of its conference road outing at Central Methodist on Wednesday night, falling to the Eagles, 85-59, in Fayette, Mo.
The Wildcats were kept in check in both halves and made just 13 shots from the floor, resulting in a season-low scoring mark in Heart play this season. Meanwhile, CMU shot at a 50-percent clip from the field and tallied 19 made free throws to earn the landslide win.
Cam Jones led BU in scoring with 19 points and added six rebounds. Luke McDonald (12) and Myles Tucker (10) each reached double figures as well, with McDonald registering all but two of his points in the first half.
Tucker and McDonald accounted for 17 of Baker's 26 points in the first 20 minutes, with Tucker nailing a three to open the game for BU. A layup from Lucas Lyons made it 15-10 in favor of CMU before the Eagles rattled off a 13-0 run to build a double-digit cushion.
Jimmy Dorsey connected on a 3-pointer to try and spark a late-half rally from the Wildcats, but the shots still didn't fall. After CMU went up by 19, Tucker scored four straight points and McDonald added a pair of free throws as Baker went into halftime trailing, 41-26.
Back-to-back layups from Jones and Alex Gunnels looked to give BU hope quickly into the second half. CMU squashed the fun with a three and added one a little bit later to keep a 16-point lead.
Dorsey hit his second three of the game to cancel out one from the Eagles' end and Carter Trumbore splashed in one to cut CMU's lead to 58-47 with just under nine minutes left to play. Central Methodist came back with another timely response to prevent the Wildcats from getting much closer from there.
Tucker and Gunnels each made a trey down the stretch, but it wouldn't be enough to trigger any late-game theatrics as Central Methodist held on to hand BU its third straight setback.
Due to projected inclement weather, Baker's home game against Missouri Valley, originally scheduled for this Saturday, has been postponed to Monday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Baldwin City.
This means the Wildcats' next outing will now be on Wednesday, Jan. 28, when they will host MidAmerica Nazarene for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff in the Collins Center.
