Dines Claims Individual Title, Baker Men’s Golf Finishes Third in Fall Opener

WICHITA, Kan. – After clinching the individual conference championship on a playoff putt in the spring, Baker men's golfer Gavin Dines opened up his 2025 fall campaign by sinking another playoff putt to win the title at the Crestview Invite on Tuesday in the Wildcats' first men's tournament of the season.

Overall, the Wildcats took third in a competitive 11-team field that featured only one other Heart of America Conference squad in Culver-Stockton, which tied for last place. BU shot a combined score of 875 to finish just a few strokes behind first-place Kirkwood CC (865) and runner-up Friends (869).

Sitting in 12th going into the final day, Dines (-5) tied the program's 18-hole record with a 66 in his third round to catapult himself up the leaderboard and force a four-way playoff. Just like in the spring, the junior from Olathe, Kan., won his playoff round to earn his sixth career individual title.

Following Dines, Baker was also led by a couple of newcomers in freshman Ethan Tompkins (+4) and transfer Tyler Baumchen (+5), who each placed in the top-15, with Tompkins taking 12th and Baumchen placing 15th. Both golfers recorded an even-par round on Monday's opening day.

Senior Drew Lisec also posted a top-20 finish in his first outing of the fall, shooting a 73 and a 74 in his final two rounds of the tournament to place 19th overall.

After both competed in standalone tournaments to begin the fall, the Baker men's and women's golf teams head out together for their first combined tournament and will compete at the Central Plains Invitational on Sept. 22-23 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan.
