Austin Halsey Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – Austin Halsey of the No. 12 nationally ranked Baker University men's soccer team was named to the Google Cloud College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, announced on Thursday.

Halsey, the senior midfielder from Topeka, Kansas is now a two-time Academic All-District selection, as he was also a recipient in 2017.

The awards' purpose is to recognize the nations' top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Austin, who carries a 3.98 GPA as a double major in Accounting & Business Management, will now advance to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

Halsey is among a group of 11 NAIA athletes named to the District 3 First-Team Division. This division is comprised of a pool of athletes from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

He is also one of two athletes on the list from the Heart of America Athletic Conference, joined by Grand View's Simone Raiola.

Austin has started in all 19 of Baker's matches this year, recording one goal and six assists.

Halsey became the seventh athlete in the history of Baker Athletics and just the second men's soccer player to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2017. He now waits to see if he becomes Baker's first two-time Academic All-American.

Along with Austin's 2017 Academic All-American selection, seven other Wildcats have garnered the honor including; Josh Rydberg (Men's Soccer), Jordan Dolbin (Women's Soccer), Katie Thurbon (Women's Track & Field), Aaron Caldwell (Men's Track and Field), Lindsey Mateer (Women's Golf) Logan Brettell (Football) and Olivia Brees (Softball).

The Wildcats will wait to find out if they receive an at-large bid into the Men's Soccer NAIA National Championship, as at-large bids will be announced by the NAIA on Sunday, Nov. 11.
