Wildcats Post Season-Best Marks at Washburn Open
TOPEKA, Kan. – Baker men's and women's track and field competed at the Washburn Open this past weekend with both squads recording personal and season-best marks at the two-day meet in Topeka, Kan.
Tajanique Bell earned third place in the 60-meter hurdles as the senior sprinter registered an 8.83 time in the finals. She also ran in the 60-meter dash (8.06) and in the 200-meter dash (26.48). Naomi Kilson competed in three events at the indoor meet, finishing 18th in the long jump (4.89m) to go along with her performances on the track with the 60m (8.00) and 200m (26.34).
Brooke Allen claimed fifth place in the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:51.93 and ran a 10:57.65 in the 3,000-meter run with both times coming in as personal bests for Allen. Freshman Haley Carter secured her fastest 5,000-meter time of the season with a 19:56.41 to finish 13th in the event. In the women's 600-yard run, Rachel Sterner placed 12th with a personal-record time of 1:32.39 and Marah Lutz (1:49.01) finished in 27th.
Aidan Massey led the Wildcats distance group with a 14th-place finish in the 5,000m (15:18.50) and came in 35th in the 3,000m on a time of 9:00.02. The men's distance medley relay team of Max Dutton, Darrell Alleyne, Luke Persson and Adriel Himojos ran a 11:10.85 to take 13th. Dutton was also the lone Wildcat to compete in the mile, turning in a sub five-minute time (4:50.74).
Trevor Bolden recorded a couple of personal-best times with a 22.43 in the 200-meter dash and a 50.39 in the 400-meter dash. He finished a few ticks behind teammate Tavius Woodall, who clocked a 22.30 in the 200m. Woodall and Bolden ran the first two legs of the Wildcats 4x400-meter relay team – rounded out by Alleyene and Jackson Stoppel – that took 18th on a time of 3:26.76.
In the men's shot put, Tyler Chaffee marked his best throw of the season with a distance of 13.43 meters, while teammate Jayson Brown followed closely behind with a 13.02-meter throw. Gage Hiebert recorded a 13.99-meter toss in the men's weight throw, while Colbie Fairley went 12.45 meters on the women's side.
The Wildcats wrap up their indoor regular season with a trip to Pitt State's campus to compete in the Gorilla Classic on Feb. 10-11 in Pittsburg, Kan.
