Wildcats Conclude Indoor Regular Season at Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – In their final meet of the indoor regular season, the Baker men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ichabod Invitational this past weekend to serve as a final tune-up for the Wildcats as they prepare for the Heart of America Conference Championships.

For the Wildcat men, Jayson Brown picked up an eighth-place result in the men's shot put with his best mark of the season, 13.73 meters, while teammate Tyler Chaffee (12.50m) joined him as one of the top-15 finishers. Gage Hiebert had his best weight throw of the day come on his final attempt, going 14.29 meters to place 17th.

In the men's pole vault, Jackson Stoppel topped out at 3.72 meters to finish 15th in the event. Stoppel also paced the Wildcats sprinters in the men's 200-meter dash with a half-turn time of 23.68 seconds.

Adriel Hinojos ran his fastest mile time of the year, clocking a 4:36.05 in BU's only distance race of the meet. Josue Arteaga took 31st in the 400-meter dash on a time of 54.79 seconds and Luke Persson also came in 31st in the 800m after almost matching his season-high pace with a 2:03.27.

On the women's side, Kaiya Mckie (18th) and Anatasia Bufford (20th) rounded out the top-20 finishers in the 200m as both McKie and Bufford boasted their fastest times of the season with respective finishes of 27.42 and 27.74 seconds. Bufford also tied her season best in the prelims of the 60-meter dash with a sprint of 8.19 seconds. Mckie (9.36) just missed on advancing to the 60-meter hurdles finals after coming in ninth in the prelims.

Marah Lutz (1:48.71) came in 16th in the 600-yard run and Haley Thompson improved on her 800-meter time from the Northwest Open with a 2:47.09.

In the field events, Colbie Fairley went 12.47 meters and placed 25th in the women's weight throw. Julie Coffey (12.01 meters) finished behind Fairley in the weight throw, but led the BU contingent in the shot put with a season-best mark of 10.60 meters.

The Wildcats head to Maryville, Mo. for the conference's indoor championship on Friday, Feb. 17 for the opening day of the two-day meet before concluding on Saturday, Feb. 18.
