Baker Track & Field Splits Weekend at Washburn Open and Pitt State Invite

PITTSBURG/TOPEKA, Kan. - After inclement weather canceled their plans last weekend, the Baker track and field teams split their travels for this past weekend, competing both at the Washburn Open (Jan. 30-31) and Pittsburg State Invite (Jan. 31).

On Friday and Saturday, the Wildcats sent a few athletes to Topeka, Kan., to compete in a highly-competitive meet, hosted by the Ichabods, which featured over 3,000 total entries.

Julie Coffey marked a throw of 10.05 meters and finished 35th in the women's shot put on Friday before earning her best distance of the season in the weight throw on Saturday, going 12.45 meters and placing 33rd in the event.

For the BU men, Kemaro Neil went 1:12.84 in the 600-yard run and took 20th, while Trot Wood clocked a time of 50.21 and placed 46th in the 400m. The Wildcats' distance medley relay team, consisting of Wood, Cutter Meade, Micah Sanders and Jacob McGlasson, recorded a combined time of 10:43.80 and came in 18th.

On Saturday at Pitt State, Neil finished just a tick slower in the 600y (1:13.29), but came in third this time. Teammate Rodree Robinson (1:13.97) followed right behind to take fourth. Rylee Lansdown turned in an 11th-place finish in the women's 600y, running a 1:40.53.

Haylei Potter (1:01.30) ran a 61-second lap and placed 30th in the women's 400m. In the men's 800m, Cutter Meade crossed the finish line just under the two-minute mark (1:59.05) to place 33rd.

Caden Cohee (9.30) and Eithan Koder (9.35) each ran under 9.4 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles.

In the distance races, Haley Carter (19:29.20) and Ellie Barnard (19:30.57) placed in consecutive spots at 23rd and 24th, respectively, in the women's 5K. Michael Knaussman (15:47.48) took 28th in the men's 5K race.

Jace Woodard (26th) and Ethan Surey (27th) came in back-to-back spots in the men's long jump, with Woodard hitting his best mark of the season at 5.88 meters, while Surey went 5.60 meters.

Potter added a ninth-place showing in the pole vault after having her highest clearance come at 2.85 meters.

Up next, Baker returns to the campus of Northwest Missouri State to compete in the Bearcat Invite on Feb. 6-7, in Maryville, Mo.
