Wildcats Wrestling Competes at Avila’s Eagle Duals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Baker men's and women's wrestling teams competed in a combined eight duals this weekend as the Wildcats wrestled at the Eagle Duals, hosted by Avila, on Friday and Saturday.

With injuries and open slots playing a factor for both squads, the men fell in their duals against St. Thomas (33-15), Campbellsville (34-19), Williams Baptist (30-18) and Oklahoma City (45-9) while the women's team dropped its duals against Missouri Baptist (31-19), Avila (34-6), Friends (30-16) and Saint Mary (29-11).

On Friday in the women's competition, Olivia Branson won three of her four matches at 130 pounds. She started off with a 7-2 decision in her first bout of the day before going on to win two more matches via tech falls. Katherine Heath (123) and Kaylynn Albrecht (155) each picked up tech fall victories in their matches against the Spartans. Abbie Jones earned five points for the Wildcats in her 136-pound match with a 12-0 tech fall against Friends.

For the men, Brett Bober highlighted Baker's outing by winning all four of his matches at 184 pounds. Eli Messick (174) and Roman Bushek (197) both added three victories apiece in their respective bouts. Messick won two of his matches on pins while Bushek also picked up a pin of his own in his 197-pound match against Campbellsville.
