No. 16 Wildcats Pin Their Way to Senior Night Victory Over Vikings
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The No. 16 Baker men's wrestling team rolled to a 33-18 victory over Heart of America Athletic Conference foe (RV) Missouri Valley on Friday night.
Prior to the dual, the Wildcats celebrated Senior Night and recognized three seniors that have been vital to the success of the program throughout the last few years. Those seniors include, Joey Ewalt, Cael Johnson and Blaine Martinez.
Saoul Prado kicked off things off with a pin in the second period of his 125-pound bout to spot the Wildcats a quick six points.
After Vikings earned a decision in the 133-pound match, Baker's Joseph Triscornia rallied in his match at 141 pounds to pin his opponent and pick up six more points for the Wildcats. At 149 pounds, Dallas Koelzer wrestled to a 5-1 decision win before Missouri Valley won by decision at 157 pounds to trim the BU lead to single digits at 15-6.
Then, Joey Hancock and Joey Ewalt delivered back-to-back pins in their respective matches at 165 and 174 pounds. Following a Vikings pin at 184, Malachi Karibo capped Baker's stellar night with the team's fifth pin of the dual in his bout at 197 pounds.
With the Senior Night victory, Baker improves to 6-10 in duals this season. The Wildcats will make a visit to MVC's campus for its next competition with the Missouri Valley Invite on Jan. 20-21.
