Men’s Wrestling Faces Tough Competition at 2024 Grand View Open
GRIMES, Iowa - The Baker men's wrestling team traveled to its first road tournament of the season, competing at the 2024 Grand View Open this past weekend in Grimes, Iowa.
The Wildcats had five different wrestlers reach the fourth round of the consolation bracket in the highly-competitive Open division with Christian Nishi-Rivera advancing the furthest for BU after bowing out in the fifth round of the 133-pound consolation bracket.
Nikolas Slatoff came away with three wins in the 149-pound division, starting off with a win by tech fall before earning back-to-back major decisions. Saoul Prado also had a couple of wins by major decision, wrestling in the Open 125.
Kevin Lund recorded a pin in two straight matches at 197 pounds before falling in the consolation fourth round.
In the Fresh/Soph division, Niko Gonzalez advanced to the quarterfinals of the 133-pound bracket with a pin in his first bout of the tournament before dropping out on a medical forfeit. Ethan Peterson totaled three wins at 149 pounds and picked up a pin in his second match
Baker heads north again next weekend with the Younes Hospitality Open taking place on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. up in Kearney, Neb.
