Wildcats Fall in Senior Night Dual to No. 17 Missouri Valley
BALDWIN CITY - In its first competition since the holiday break, the Baker men's wrestling team dropped its midweek home dual with No. 17 Missouri Valley, 46-6 on Senior Night here Wednesday in the Collins Center.
Prior to the match, the Wildcats recognized three seniors for their contributions to the program. Those seniors include Jake Barnes, Jakob Stovall and Joseph Triscornia.
The Wildcats hung tough with a ranked Vikings team through the first four matches with Triscornia and Saoul Prado earning a couple of wins for BU. The Vikings rattled off six straight pins to close out the match though and came out on top to give Baker its second setback against a conference foe this season.
The night started off with a top-25 matchup in the 125-pound match as No. 23 Prado defeated MVC's Robert Albert, who ranks right behind Prado at No. 24 in the national rankings. Prado totaled an 11-6 decision win to put BU in front right off the bat.
After the Vikings claimed the next two classes with a forfeit and a major decision, Triscornia wrestled in another tough battle in the 149-pound bout. The senior from Olathe, Kan. grinded out a 4-2 decision win, using a takedown in the final period to secure his victory and make it a 10-6 deficit for BU.
With the result, the Wildcats moved to 2-2 in their duals facing fellow Heart of America teams. They defeated William Penn in their first dual of the season before going on to take down Benedictine in a split of its home tri-dual with the Ravens and top-ranked Grand View.
Baker will travel to Valley's campus for its next competition with the Missouri Valley Invite on January 24-25 in Marshall, Mo.
