Prado, Slatoff Place Seventh, Men’s Wrestling Competes at MVC Invite
MARSHALL, Mo. - Wrestling in the first of back-to-back tournaments in Marshall, Mo., the Baker men's wrestling team had a pair of wrestlers - Saoul Prado and Nikolas Slatoff - earn placement finishes at the 2025 Missouri Valley Invite this past weekend.
Prado came away with five wins in the 125-pound bracket, winning his first three matches of the tournament before claiming seventh-place honors on a 19-4 tech fall in his placement match.
At 149 pounds, Slatoff racked up six total wins with half of them coming on a tech fall. In his placement match, he wrestled to a tough 4-0 decision over CJ Shadinger of Reinhardt, who ranks No. 22 nationally at 149 pounds, to earn a seventh-place finish.
Jakob Stovall picked up three wins in the 157-pound bracket with his first win coming on a close 7-6 decision and then a sudden-death victory to stay alive in the consolation bracket.
Nikolas Gonzalez (133), Joseph Triscornia (149) and Noah Sample (165) all earned a couple of wins in Marshall as well. Gonzalez came through with a pin to reach the quarterfinals of the 133-pound bracket, Triscornia won his first match on a 12-0 major decision and Sample pinned his first opponent of the tournament.
Up next, the BU men's team joins the women's squad for a wrestling doubleheader at Central Methodist later this week with the men's dual set to start at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30 in Fayette, Mo.
