Wildcats Fall in Road Wrestling Doubleheader at Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. - The Baker wrestling teams were in action in Fayette, Mo. on Thursday night where the Wildcats fell to Central Methodist in both duals of the conference doubleheader.

The BU women tried to fight their way back from an early deficit, but came up short with the Eagles taking the first dual of the night, 23-18. Then, the two schools put on another great battle in the men's dual with BU coming up on the wrong end again as CMU won by a score of 28-16.

In the women's dual, the two teams wrestled to an even split with Veronica Greene, Jade Martin, Liz Cope, Nevaeh Wardlow and Jaclyn Daley earning the five wins for BU. The Eagles were able to win two of their matches by pin and had a tech fall at 110 pounds, while Wardlow had the lone pin for the Wildcats.

Greene put Baker on the board first after coming out on top in the 103-pound match on a 5-0 decision.

Martin's victory in the 138-pound bout was the highlight of the dual for BU as she earned a win over CMU's Lilly Gough, who ranks No. 11 nationally, on a tiebreaker.

Trailing 21-7 on the scoreboard, the Wildcats claimed the final three matches to keep things interesting late. Cope won by decision at 160 pounds, Wardlow (180) followed with her pin and Daley capped the dual with an 11-6 decision in the 207-pound match.

The Wildcats were the first team to score in the men's dual as well with Saoul Prado opening things up with a pin at 125 pounds.

Christian Nishi-Rivera followed with a ranked win in the 133-pound match, defeating No. 15 Arojae Hart on a 4-2 decision.

After a CMU major decision, Nikolas Slatoff and Jonah Muhammad earned BU another set of back-to-back wins to make it a 16-4 lead. Slatoff battled for a 10-8 win at 149 pounds and Muhammad followed with a big 13-5 major decision victory.

The Eagles rattled off five consecutive wins to come from behind and steal the dual on a final tally of 28-16.

Up next, the BU women will be in action on Saturday, February 1 as they compete in the Grand View Open up in Des Moines, Iowa. The BU men have another conference dual on tap for them with a matchup at Graceland set for Thursday, Feb. 6 in Lamoni, Iowa.
