Prado, Slatoff Claim Titles, Wildcats Host 2025 Dan Harris Open
BALDWIN CITY - The Baker men's wrestling team played host to the 2025 Dan Harris Open on Sunday in the Collins Center where the Wildcats earned four top-four finishes, including a pair of individual titles.
Overall, the Wildcats had 14 wrestlers competing in their annual home tournament, which featured a total of nine teams and a tournament field of nearly 150 wrestlers hitting the mat in Collins.
Saoul Prado and Nikolas Slatoff each came away with a first-place finish in their second tournament of the season with Prado coming out on top of the 125-pound bracket, while Slatoff went the whole day without giving up a single point and defeated a couple of NCAA Division II wrestlers to earn top honors at 149 pounds.
Eli Messick won four of his five matches at 174 pounds, edging out a 7-6 decision in the consolation semifinals before earning a pin to place third. Jazen Brown also totaled four wins in Collins with three consecutive decisions, putting him in the placement match at 149 pounds, where he settled for fourth.
Also wrestling at 149 pounds, Nakos Benton reeled off straight wins to make it to the semifinals of the consolation bracket before bowing out. Noah Sample advanced to the consolation semifinals in the 165-pound bracket with back-to-back wins.
Up next, Baker will compete in its first dual of the season on Thursday, Nov. 13, traveling to Ottawa for a wrestling doubleheader against the Braves. The women's dual will kick things off at 6 p.m. with the men's dual to follow.
