Men’s Wrestling Earns Big Win, Wildcats Split Road Duals at Ottawa

OTTAWA, Kan. - The Baker wrestling teams came away with a split in their nonconference dual doubleheader at Ottawa on Thursday night, highlighted by a 34-17 victory from the BU men.

The Wildcat women fell to the 12th-ranked Braves, 36-12, in the first dual of the night. Senior Kylie Robledo (117) and junior transfer Chloe Herrick (124) had the lone wins for BU.

After two straight forfeits from BU, Robledo, who is ranked sixth nationally, faced a top-15 battle in her match at 117 pounds, taking on No. 13 Addison Saporito and earning an emphatic victory on a tech fall to put Baker on the board.

Herrick tacked on a second straight win for the Wildcats, pinning her opponent in the 124-pound match to tie the dual at 10-10.

The Braves captured the next six matches to come out on top in convincing fashion at 36-12. OU had seven ranked wrestlers competing in total tonight, with five of them picking up wins and one other winning by forfeit.

In the nightcap, Saoul Prado (125) and Nat'aani Prado (133) opened up the men's dual with back-to-back tech falls to spot Baker an early 10-0 lead.

Trading points with the Braves the rest of the way, the Wildcats' next four wins all came via pins. Nikolas Slatoff took down his opponent at 149 pounds, followed by a pin from Noah Sample at 165, and then two consecutive takedowns to seal the victory, courtesy of Kevin Lund (197) and Elijah Eslinger (285).

Competing in their first dual of the season, the BU men followed up a successful home tournament with Sunday's Dan Harris Open by earning head coach Jake Lords' first win as a Wildcat.

Up next, the Baker men will turn around and head to the Grand View Open, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Des Moines, Iowa. Meanwhile, the BU women will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 with another non-con road dual at Friends at 6 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
