Wildcats Earn Second Straight Win, Split Valley Duals
MARSHALL, Mo. - After winning Tuesday's conference dual at William Woods, Baker men's wrestling split a pair of matches at the Valley Duals on Friday, defeating Colby CC, 33-23, before falling to host Missouri Valley.
In their first dual of the day against the Trojans, the Wildcats won six matches and forfeited two of the lightweight classes to earn their second straight victory. After a major decision from Nat'aani Prado in the 133-pound match, BU claimed five of the last six bouts with four of them coming by way of a pin.
Dylan Washburn pinned his opponent at 157 pounds, while Noah Sample (174), Eli Messick (184) and Kevin Lund (197) all took care of their challengers the same way. Nakos Benton added a tech fall win at 165 pounds for his second victory of the week.
Taking on the 12th-ranked Vikings in a Heart dual, Baker fell by a final score of 51-4 with Lund picking up a 17-4 major decision in the only win of the match for BU.
In their first week back since the holiday break, the Wildcats won two of their three matches to move to 5-3 overall in duals this year with three of those victories coming against conference teams.
Baker returns to action next week, hosting its first dual of the season alongside the BU women's team as Missouri Baptist comes to town for a wrestling doubleheader on Wednesday, Jan. 14, starting at 6 p.m. in the Collins Center.
