Wildcats Earn Bounce-Back Road Win over Ravens, 24-16

ATCHISON, Kan. - After falling at home last night to No. 19 Missouri Baptist, (RV) Baker men's wrestling responded with a big conference win on the road, defeating (RV) Benedictine, 24-16, on Thursday night in Atchison, Kan.

The Wildcats came out on top in six of the matches, including back-to-back tech falls from the Prado brothers to start the night and a major decision from Kevin Lund at 197 pounds to seal BU's sixth dual win of the season.

Saoul Prado opened things up with a 17-2 tech fall in the 125-pound match and Nat'aani Prado followed with a 16-1 tech fall in the next class at 133 pounds to spot the Wildcats a crucial 10-0 lead.

Jazen Brown (141) and Nakos Benton (149) made it four straight victories for BU with Brown tacking on a major decision and Benton battling to a thrilling 10-9 overtime win at 149 pounds. Noah Sample put up a valiant fight in his comeback victory at 165 pounds, earning a 21-16 decision after trailing early on in the bout.

The lone open of the match brought the Ravens within striking distance as Baker held on to a 20-13 lead with two classes left to go.

Lund, who had one of BU's two wins against MBU yesterday, rolled to his second straight victory with a 12-1 major decision to finish off the Wildcats' road win.

With six dual wins overall, the Wildcats picked up their fourth conference victory of the season, adding the Ravens to a list of triumphs that includes fellow Heart of America teams St. Ambrose, William Penn and William Woods.

Baker continues with its busy week and will hop back into tournament action, competing in Central Missouri's Denker Open on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. in Warrensburg, Mo.
