Baker Softball Garners Seven All-Conference Award Winners

BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – The No. 25 ranked Baker University softball team was lauded with seven 2018 Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball All-Conference award winners announced at the Heart Conference Championship on Thursday.

The BU award winners were highlighted by First Team All-Conference award winner, Olivia Brees.

Catcher Eva Gonzalez, right fielder Lydia Konrade and third baseman Stephanie Cardona were all named to the Second Team All-Conference, while pitcher Teagan Louthan, catcher Makayla Stromenger and short stop Jazzmine Thorpe were all selected to the Honorable Mention All-Conference team.

Sophomore Riley Swickard also earned the coveted Gold Glove award for her stellar defense at the center field position.

Brees is currently No. 1 in the NAIA in strikeouts with 282 and has posted an ERA of 0.99 with 26 victories this season. She was also a First Team All-Conference selection in 2017, as was Cardona.

Cardona has put together one of the greatest careers offensively for a Baker Wildcat. The senior has a .353 career batting average, 133 career RBI and 17 career home runs.

Konrade is tied for the BU single season record of home runs with eight this season and leads the team in RBI with 35.

In just her first season with Baker, Gonzalez is hitting .336 with nine doubles and 25 RBI in just 34 starts.

She has also thrown out three runners caught stealing at the catcher spot and posted a fielding percentage of .983.

Stromenger has also been a stellar catcher behind the plate with her three runners caught stealing and fielding percentage of .988. She also has four home runs, two triples and six doubles at the plate.

Thorpe leads all Wildcats in hits with 61 and is hitting .370 this season and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with 10.

Louthan has put together a stellar senior campaign with her 11-4 record and ERA of 2.65.
