Baker Softball Earns Five Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – After producing the best season in the history of its program in 2018, the Baker University softball team continues to rack up awards, as five members of its team earned the prestigious 2018 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award on Wednesday.
The five Wildcats to earn the award include Stephanie Cardona, Olivia Brees, Hannah Tolliver, Alexis Korte and Jamie Haden.
Baker also garnered five Scholar-Athletes in 2017 and Cardona is the only repeat winner from a year ago.
The five Wildcats are amongst a group of 466 softball student-athletes from across the NAIA to earn the award.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
Brees also earned the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District award earlier in May, becoming the first-ever Baker softball player to be selected for that honor.
That award also places her in the running for the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America award, an honor that has only been given to seven students in the history of Baker Athletics.
