Kira Baker Named Heart Softball Pitcher of the Week

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Junior pitcher Kira Baker of the Baker softball team was selected Heart Softball Pitcher of the Week following her performance in the Wildcats' pair of conference sweeps this past weekend.

Baker, a junior from Eudora, Kan., pitched two complete games, including her second consecutive one-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Clarke on Saturday, where she racked up 15 strikeouts. She added five strikeouts and picked up her second win of the weekend in a 5-2 victory over Mount Mercy on Sunday.

The lefty pitcher has thrown seven complete games and totaled 65 strikeouts in nine starts this season with a recent hot streak that has seen her toss three shutouts in her last four outings.

After going 4-0 in their conference-opening weekend, the Wildcats head out for their first Heart road trip with games at Grand View (March 28) and Culver-Stockton (March 29) this weekend. The GVU doubleheader, which was moved up to Friday due to projected rain, will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, while the C-SC series is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
