Kira Baker Earns Heart Pitcher of the Week Award

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Baker softball's junior hurler Kira Baker was selected Heart Softball Pitcher of the Week, presented by Musco, following her performance in the Wildcats' back-to-back sweeps this past weekend.

Baker, a junior from Eudora, Kan., allowed just one hit in both of her outings this past weekend, tossing a one-hitter against Missouri Valley on Friday for her seventh shutout of the season. She then came in and pitched five innings of relief on Saturday, racking up eight strikeouts and earning her second win of the weekend.

The lefty pitcher has thrown 13 complete games and totaled 124 strikeouts in 16 starts this season with five of her seven shutouts coming in conference play.

With a 15-5 record in conference, the Wildcats, currently, sit in fourth place in the Heart standings and head into the final week of the regular season with a couple of marquee matchups.

BU will host its final home regular-season series with a doubleheader against the league frontrunner and No. 10 Central Methodist on Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m. at Cavaness Field. The Wildcats will then go on the road and face (RV) Benedictine, who sits right behind Baker in the conference standings with a 13-7 record, on Saturday, April 26 in Atchison, Kan.
