Wildcats Fall in Road Finale to No. 2 Eagles

FAYETTE, Mo. – The Baker women's basketball team fell in its final road contest of the regular season, 94-51 to No. 2 Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo. on Monday night.

The undefeated Eagles scored at least 22 points in all four quarters while holding the Wildcats to their lowest-scoring game of the conference season. CMU shot over 50-percent in the game (54.3), including an 8-for-20 line from three-point range.

Emma Cunningham was one of three Wildcats to reach double figures in the game, finishing with a team-high 19 points. Ainsely Tolson totaled 11 points and four assists and Sophia Barrett added 10 points and five rebounds.

Off of the tipoff, Central opened the game with a three and hit back-to-back triples midway through the first quarter to take an early 13-4 lead. Tolson fired back with a three of her own to keep BU within 10, but the Eagles pushed their lead to 25-11 after the end of the opening quarter.

In the second, Cunningham started off with a nice stretch, converting a three-point play as part of scoring six straight points for BU. CMU continued to extend its lead throughout the second quarter, building a 23-point advantage at halftime with the score 48-25.

Barrett knocked down a couple baskets for Baker out of the break and added a nice driving layup off of a pass from Tolson with 3:41 left in quarter. In the closing seconds, Tolson chipped in another dime to set up a Cunningham bucket to close out a third quarter score of 70-40 in favor of CMU.
Cunningham swished one from deep to open the final frame, but the Eagles offense continued to stay hot as they kept well in control of this one to win by a 94-51 margin.

Baker moves to 12-13 overall and 8-12 against conference opponents this season. The Wildcats return to the Collins Center for their final two regular-season games, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. against William Penn before the regular-season finale versus Peru State on Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.
