Young Earns Heart Defensive Player of the Week Honors

BALDWIN CITY - Freshman goalkeeper Avery Young of the Baker women's soccer team was named Heart Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon for her performance last week in the Wildcats' 1-0 victory at Ottawa.

Young, a freshman from Spring Hill, Kan., had a terrific outing on the road against the Braves on Friday, totaling eight saves and earning her first collegiate shutout. She became the second Wildcat to earn a conference player of the week award after teammate Emma Schieber was selected Heart Offensive Player of the Week last week.

Starting the past three matches in goal, Young has tallied 14 saves and allowed just two goals in her debut season for BU. She shut out McPherson in the first half of Baker's 7-2 win over the Bulldogs before being subbed out in the second half of the blowout.

With both of their wins coming on the road, Young and the Wildcats will play their fourth match away from Baldwin City this season with a matchup at Mid-America Christian on Friday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. in Oklahoma City, Okla.
