Wildcats Fall One Goal Short, Drop Home Matchup vs. #7 Central Methodist

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Despite tying it early in the second half, the Wildcats dropped a tough one at home to No. 6 Central Methodist on Saturday, 2-1.

The Eagles took the most shots in the game with 15, while Baker took five, but with seven shots on goal, Avery Young made five strong saves to only give up two goals in the game. Baker had just two shots on goal, with one of those finding the net.

It didn't take long for CMU to get on the board, scoring in the fourth minute to take the early 1-0 lead. But the Baker defense buckled down and held the Eagles scoreless for more than 70 minutes following the goal.

After halftime, Baker's Lydia Brinker turned and beat the keeper in the 55th minute to tie the game at one and score her second goal of the season. About 20 minutes later, a goal from the Eagles broke the tie. Late in the game, Baker had a free kick from about 10 yards outside of the box, but the shot was blocked by the wall as Baker fell to CMU, 2-1.

Baker is now 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in Heart of America play. They will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 2, when they travel to Atchison, Kan., to take on Benedictine at 5 p.m.
