Wildcats Take on Nation’s Best at NWCA Duals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Baker men's and women's wrestling teams opened up the 2023 portion of its season by wrestling at the highly-competitive NWCA National Duals this past weekend in Louisville, Ky.

Both teams went 1-4 on the weekend with the men picking up a win against No. 19 Oklahoma City, 24-20, while the women defeated No. 11 Iowa Wesleyan, 25-20.

On the women's side, Kylie Robledo finished with a perfect 5-0 record in her bouts at 116 pounds. On Friday, she started off with a tech fall against Life before going on to pin her next two opponents of the day. She added another tech fall victory in her final wrestle of the weekend with a 10-0 win against Cumberlands. Ranking 13th in the nation at 116 pounds, two of her wins came against top-15 nationally ranked opponents with victories over the 14th- and 15th-ranked wrestlers.

Nichole Moore won three straight matches at 130 pounds, including a strong performance on Saturday when she won by tech fall and a pin. Kaylynn Albrecht added three victories as well with all of her wins at 155 pounds coming by way of tech fall. Albrecht, who ranks No. 2 at 155 pounds, defeated the 4th-ranked Kendra Thompson of Campbellsville University in her final bout on Friday.

For the men, Joey Hancock (165) recorded four wins over the course of two days, wrestling at both 165 and 174 pounds. After winning his first bout on a 5-0 decision, he earned a major decision victory in his second match before going on to add a couple more wins by decision on Saturday.

Brett Bober won three matches for the Wildcats as he cycled between bouts at 184 and 197 pounds. He picked up a top-25 win on Friday after defeating 21st-ranked Jack Kitchingam of Oklahoma City on an 11-3 major decision. Roman Bushek and Dallas Koelzer each had two wins for the Wildcats with No. 14 Koelzer getting the best of the wrestler right behind him in the national rankings at 149 pounds. Koelzer battled Indiana Tech's Corey Cavanaugh, who sits at No. 15 in the rankings, to a 3-2 win in his first wrestle of the weekend.

The Baker men return to action Friday, Jan. 13 as they welcome Missouri Valley for Senior Night at 6 p.m. The women will wrestle on Jan. 14 with a trip to the York Open, beginning at 9 a.m.
