Albrecht’s Title Highlights Wildcats’ Outing at York Open
YORK, Neb. – The No. 18 Baker women's wrestling team earned a pair of top-three finishes – including a first-place performance from junior grappler Kaylynn Albrecht – at the York Open this past weekend.
Wrestling at 155 pounds in the open division, Albrecht cruised to the title by winning all four of her matches by tech fall. En route to her first-place run, Albrecht defeated a couple of top-12 nationally ranked wrestlers at 155 pounds, taking down 12th-ranked Julia Chambers of Waldorf in the quarterfinals before going to top Grand View's Mahealani Ramirez (No. 10) in her next bout in the semifinals.
Coming off a 5-0 outing at the NWCA National Duals earlier this month, Kylie Robledo received third-place honors after going 4-1 in her matches at 116 pounds in the open division. After advancing to the placement match on a decision in the consolation semifinals, she pinned her next opponent to come away with the bronze.
In the 123-pound freshman/sophomore division, Aaliyah Bueno won three straight matches to place herself in the semifinals. She won on back-to-back tech falls before grinding out a 10-8 decision in her quarterfinals match.
Kylie Hernandez won her first two matches at 101 pounds of the open division, both of which came via tech fall, before bowing out in the consolation semifinals. Mariam Shariq earned a pin in her second match of the tournament as she competed in the 136-pound freshman/sophomore division.
The Wildcats return to the mat for a dual with Missouri Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
