Albrecht Selected as Heart Women’s Wrestler of the Week
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After winning the 155-pound title at the York Open this past weekend, Baker's Kaylynn Albrecht was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week, the league announced.
Wrestling at 155 pounds in the open division on Saturday, Albrecht cruised to the title by winning all four of her matches by tech fall. En route to her first-place run, Albrecht defeated a couple of top-12 nationally ranked wrestlers at 155 pounds, taking down 12th-ranked Julia Chambers of Waldorf in the quarterfinals before going to top Grand View's Mahealani Ramirez (No. 10) in her next bout in the semifinals.
The junior grappler from Fort Worth, Texas ranks second in the NAIA at 155 pounds. Earlier this season, she collected a first-place finish at the Falcon Invite on Nov. 5 and finished sixth at the Missouri Valley Invite on Nov. 19.
Last year, Albrecht earned All-American honors after finishing runner-up at the NAIA Nationals where she helped lead the Wildcats to a 12th-place finish in the team standings. She was also tabbed Heart of America Newcomer of the Year in 2021 after taking third at the conference championships last season.
Albrecht and the Wildcats return to the mat for a dual with Missouri Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
