Wildcats Win Senior Night Dual Over Midland, 25-19

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker women's wrestling claimed the final three matches of its dual with Midland to propel the Wildcats to a 25-19 win over the Warriors on Wednesday evening here in the Collins Center.

Prior to the dual, the Wildcats celebrated Senior Night and recognized four seniors that helped launch the Baker women's wrestling program and have been vital to its success the last few years. Those seniors include, Kaylynn Albrecht, Olivia Branson, Jennifer Curry and Nichole Moore.

The Warriors opened up the dual by taking the first two matches via tech fall and a pin. At 116 pounds, Katherine Heath tacked on Baker's first points of the dual with a tech fall. After Midland added another tech fall in the 123-pound bout, Moore and Abbie Jones each won by decision in their respective matches at 130 and 136 pounds. The Wildcats earned a bonus point at 123 pounds, while the Warriors added one in the 130-pound match.

With the score 14-11 in its favor, Midland increased its lead with a pin at 143 pounds. Then, the Wildcats got a huge lift from Mikayla Konrade in the 155-pound bout as Konrade snagged her first victory of the season with a tech fall win to trim the Warriors advantage to four points with two matches to go.

Wrestling up at 170 pounds, senior and No. 2 nationally ranked Albrecht secured a quick pin to push the Wildcats ahead and seal their Senior Night victory. With the Warriors open at 191 pounds, the final score settled at 25-19 with Baker winning on its home mat.

Up next for the Wildcats is a trip to Leavenworth, Kan. to compete in the Spire Classic, hosted by Saint Mary on Friday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m.
