FAQs for Baker Athletic Bands

DO I HAVE TO AUDITION?

Yes, a short video audition must be submitted by May 30th. Directions for submission can be found here.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE?

Membership in the Marching Wildcats is a time-intensive activity, but we do all that we can to work quickly and efficiently. We have two marching rehearsals a week as an ensemble, as well as one music rehearsal as independent sections.

IS THERE A SCHOLARSHIP?

Yes! All members can earn one, and they stack with any activity or athletic scholarship!

DO I NEED TO BE A MUSIC MAJOR TO JOIN AND EARN A SCHOLARSHIP?

No! In fact, most of our members are not music majors – just BU students who want to continue playing and performing.

WHAT IF I HAVEN’T PLAYED IN A WHILE?

If you are willing to put in the work, we will have you back in playing shape in no time!

WILL THERE BE A BAND CAMP?

Yes! Band members will move in early and participate in band camp, the first full week before classes start. Our band camp schedule will work around Orientation, as well as Student/Greek Life organizations, so members are able to participate.

I’VE NEVER MARCHED BEFORE, CAN I STILL JOIN?

Absolutely! We teach all marching techniques at the beginning of each season during band camp, so if you have never marched, we will teach you how!

WHERE DOES THE BAND PLAY?

ALL home football games, as a Travelling Cat Band on Friday Nights before select home games, in the Maple Leaf Festival Parade, at the Baker Marching Festival, and select volleyball games.

ARE THERE OTHER BANDS AT BAKER THAT I CAN JOIN?

YES! Our Basketball Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Ensemble. More information on those can be found here.
