Wildcats Earn Sunday Sweep, Take Home Series over Central Methodist

BALDWIN CITY - Baker baseball broke through for its first conference series win of the season against Central Methodist, putting an exclamation point on the weekend with a Sunday sweep.

The Wildcats opened with a statement victory on Saturday, 4-1, to set the tone for the series before falling in a one-run heartbreaker in the nightcap. BU followed by reeling off back-to-back wins on Sunday to knock off an Eagles squad that won all four games of their conference opener against Park last weekend.

BU 4, CMU 1
Playing in toasty conditions on Saturday, the Wildcats broke open a game-one pitching battle with a three-run bottom of the fifth to take the series opener, 4-1.

Camden Karlin went the distance for the second straight home start, allowing just one run on six hits with four strikeouts across seven innings to earn his fourth win of the season - all of which have come at Sauder Field.

After the Eagles scored in the top of the third, BU loaded the bases in the bottom half of the frame as pinch-runner Jayden Ford came across to score on a ground ball and tie the game at 1-1.

Baker loaded the bases again to spark its big fifth inning with Tyson Kiser cracking the deadlock on an RBI infield single. Ford crossed home for the second time and Kiser came around to score after a CMU error to seal the win.

CMU 7, BU 6
Saturday's second game featured more offense, but the same level of drama as the Eagles plated a couple of runs late to steal a 7-6 win.

The Wildcats scored five runs in the first two innings to erase a three-run top of the first from CMU. Tyson Wallace drove in a run in each of his first two plate appearances and TJ Armstrong smacked a two-run double to push BU in front, 5-3, in the bottom of the second.

After the Eagles tied it in the third, Wallace delivered his third straight RBI of the game in the bottom of the fourth to make it a one-run lead for BU. CMU tied it in the sixth and then brought home the game-winning run on a squirrely sac fly in shallow right field.

BU 9, CMU 5
Switching to gusty winds on Sunday, the Wildcats outlasted the Eagles in a 9-5 slugfest with both teams combining for 11 extra-base hits in the game.

BU starter Tyler Vigna struck out six and battled through nearly six innings (5.2 IP) to pick up his third win of the spring.

Wallace carried over his offensive tear, snapping a 2-2 deadlock with a three-run bomb in the bottom of the second. After CMU got within one, Kiser laced a bases-clearing triple down the right field line to break open the game.

Trent Davidson (0.2 IP) and Gage Callaghan (0.2 IP) logged a couple of scoreless relief outings to help preserve the win, with Callaghan earning his fourth save of the season.

BU 15, CMU 4
Baker garnished its key conference weekend with a 15-run explosion to complete a doubleheader sweep of the Eagles and clinch BU's first Heart series of 2026.

Freshman Brayden Walker belted his first career homer and finished with four RBI, while Wallace drove in two more runs to post an eight-RBI outing for the weekend.

The Wildcats worked up a 6-0 lead through the first three innings and tacked on two more in the fourth. Walker hit an RBI double in the fifth before his two-run home run in the sixth that capped the scoring.

With a 13-11 record overall, BU improves on its stellar 2026 home mark, moving to 11-5 in games at Sauder Field this year.

Baker will continue the conference homestand with a weekday matchup against Peru State set for Tuesday, March 24, at 3 p.m. in Baldwin City.
