Tucker’s 30-Point Day Leads Baker to Blowout Win over Culver-Stockton

BALDWIN CITY - Fueled by a 30-point outing from Myles Tucker, Baker men's basketball posted its second straight blowout at home, rolling past Culver-Stockton, 90-61, on Saturday afternoon in the Collins Center.

BU dropped 49 points in the first half to boast a 23-point halftime lead and followed up with a cruise-controlled second half to claim the team's fifth conference win of the season.

Baker shot at a blistering rate from the floor, averaging over 50 percent (35-of-65) overall and hitting eight threes in the game. BU owned a 44-27 advantage on the glass and had 40 of its points come inside the paint.

Tucker notched his second game with at least 30 points, falling a little short of his season-high 35 points at Haskell back in November. Cam Jones had an excellent day as well, recording a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while tacking on three steals and two assists. Alex Gunnels (15) and Luke McDonald (10) each reached double figures.

Culver-Stockton scored the game's first points to take its first and only lead of the game as back-to-back threes from Gunnels and Tucker set the stage for BU's big day. Gunnels and Tucker connected on a heads-up out-of-bounds play taken by Gunnels, who caught the C-SC defense napping for an easy lob to Tucker to give Baker a double-digit lead less than five minutes into the contest.

A corner three from Jimmy Dorsey made it a 25-8 lead for BU at the 8:50 mark before Culver-Stockton put up a mini run to get closer to single-digit range. Tucker nailed back-to-back treys and Jones followed with a set of transition layups to stretch the lead back out to 20 points at 39-19.

Baker closed the half with eight unanswered points with a nice pull-up jumper from Gunnels capping the halftime score at 49-26 in BU's favor.

In the second half, Gunnels quarterbacked another well-designed out-of-bounds set that led to an easy layup for McDonald as the two teams traded buckets through the early parts of the half.

Tucker fired in another three to make it 61-36 and BU clamped down defensively to keep C-SC without a field goal for over three minutes. McDonald battled his way to second-chance points on consecutive possessions, soaring through the air for one of them on a tapped-in stick-back.

A spin move in the lane from Tucker gave Baker a 79-59 lead with just over five minutes left as both sides emptied their benches down the stretch. Ethan Viets had five straight points and KJ Odour closed out the 90-point affair for BU with a jumper just inside the arc.

After falling in its final conference game of 2025, BU opens up the new year with back-to-back victories to move to 5-3 in Heart play and 7-9 overall. BU improves to 4-2 in games inside the Collins Center this season and extends its four-game home winning streak.

Up next, Baker will head out on the road for the first time in 2026, squaring off against Benedictine on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
