Wildcats Fall in Monday Make-Up Game to Valley

BALDWIN CITY - In a make-up game that was originally postponed due to weather back in January, Baker women's basketball dropped its Monday night conference matchup against Missouri Valley, falling to the Vikings, 71-46, in the Collins Center.

The Wildcats ran into a powerful MVC side that held BU to its lowest scoring total of the season and led by more than 20 points at halftime. Baker struggled shooting the ball for most of the night, finishing under 28 percent from the floor, but was able to knock down five 3-pointers as a team.

Missouri Valley lived its night from the three-point line, going 11-for-33 with exactly half of its shot attempts coming from deep.

Amaya Barnes' 11 points led a Wildcats squad that had 10 total players reach the scoring column. Rhianna Blanchard scored five of her seven points in the third quarter and Kennedy Bryan drained a pair of threes to finish with six points.

It was a slow start to the game for both teams as the first quarter saw just 14 combined points as MVC led 12-2 after the opening 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, Taniya Tease and Gabby Rose each scored on consecutive possessions and Neveah Leeks added another jumper midway through, but the Vikings continued to stretch their lead.

Barnes tallied the final six points for BU to close the half, including a buzzer-beating layup on a heads-up feed from Maddie Wilbeck.

Trailing 37-14, Baker kept the margin closer in the second half, with Blanchard sinking a couple of free throws before hitting a trey in her nice third-quarter stretch. Rose, Lauren Berg and Mariah Dightman each chipped in baskets in the period as well.

A three from Barnes opened up the fourth quarter before Bryan connected on the first of her two triples of the frame. Corrine Cole converted a three-point play as BU put together its best 10 minutes of the game.

Up next, Baker will turn around and close out its 2025-26 home slate on Wednesday, Feb. 18, with a matchup against William Woods, starting at 5:30 p.m. inside the Collins Center.
